After being a counselor for 25 years, my family and I moved to a state that was not in the social work licensure compact. The compact allows counselors to practice across state lines. My badass was not going to be defined by zipcode. I had to find the confidence to see myself in a new role professionally. The clarity to forge the new path. Then launch my badass into coaching.
I built successful counseling practices in both Illinois and Colorado. The foundation of counseling is listening. Listening to the verbal and non-verbal communication of others. Taking the information I learned from actively listening allowed me to formulate effective plans with clients on what goals they wanted to achieve in counseling. People always tell me I am 'such a good listener', and that I ask 'great questions'. My confidence in my skills to listen, question, and plan led me to pivot into life coaching.
Bringing into focus that I am the person people come to for advice, not only professionally but personally, gave me clarity. I want to empower other women to transform their lives. My badass refused to feel stuck professionally, and I can help other women do the same both personally and professionally.
To launch into something new sparks reflection. For me, one thing this career shift ignited was that badass fire within me that someone tried to dampen. In high school, I had a female teacher tell me I would amount to nothing. The great news is...she was wrong, and I knew that! My confidence was not rooted in her opinion. My badass was self-defined. I was the first one in my family to go to college, I graduated Magna Cum Laude, grew successful counseling practices in two states, and raised two confident women to launch into the world. I want to coach women to cultivate the confidence to achieve clarity on their goals and launch themselves into their self-defined badass.
